The charm of Poor Richard's doesn’t just lie in its history — although celebrating your 21st birthday here, like Susan Mote Sharkey did, certainly adds a layer of personal connection and sentimentality. It’s the genuine warmth and camaraderie that the bartenders bring to the bar every night. Whether you're sharing stories over a classic Bloody Mary or enjoying a cold beer, the bartenders foster an atmosphere where conversation flows as naturally as the drinks. A customer like Joseph Annigoni praises it as “handsdown, one of the best dive bars,” highlighting the friendly bartenders, cool environment, and just the right soundtrack that sets the mood.
For those who appreciate affordable, quality drinks in a clean and cozy setting, Poor Richard's delivers on all fronts. Andrew Soto’s recognition of great pricing and ample parking reflects the bar’s commitment to accessibility and customer experience. The menu, featuring signature cocktails like the Bloody Mary, alongside Red Bull mixes, beer, and an interesting selection of liquor and wine, caters to a broad spectrum of tastes — always served with a personal touch.
Beyond the drinks, it’s the intimate, somewhat clandestine vibe that keeps patrons coming back. Described by Dame Lastsameasfirst as “dark, private, and cold beer,” the bar is an ideal spot for meaningful conversations at all hours, even early morning meetups. J P’s encounter with bartenders Connor and Josh further illustrates the genuine friendliness and positive energy that this dive bar exudes — making every visit feel like a homecoming.
In essence, Poor Richard's Cocktails shines because it’s more than just a place to grab a drink — it’s a comforting cornerstone of the Long Beach scene. Whether you’re looking to relive cherished memories, make new friends, or simply enjoy expertly mixed drinks in a laid-back setting, this cocktail bar guarantees an authentic experience with a welcoming spirit.
Don’t just take their word for it—stop by Poor Richard’s, pull up a stool, and immerse yourself in one of Long Beach's most beloved dive bar experiences.
The bar has been there for years. I spent my 21 st b day there so many years ago. But lately the bar has a way nicer atmosphere. Bartenders are great. Enjoy having conversations with all of them. . Just a great place to unwind and have a cocktail . I would recommend.
Hands-down, one of the best dive bars you will ever go to. If you like friendly bartenders, cool environment and great music. This is the place for you!
This place is the best and they always hook it up! Nice clean little dive bar with plenty of parking. All the employees are really friendly. Best most affordable drinks in SO CAL!
I have only been once but I more than occasionally like to find new people to have 6am drinks with. I stumbled on this place and it was perfect! The bartender was a super nice guy and the gentleman sitting at the bar was friendly and I enjoyed the conversation. Dark, private, and cold beer.
I've been in this area for many years and have never ventured into this establishment. Today, my curiosity got the best of me, and I decided to drop in for a drink. Luckily I did, because the bartenders, Connor and Josh, are super cool dudes with the nicest attitudes and great personalities. When in town, stop by and pay a visit to have a drink or two; they have a wide assortment of almost anything you'd desire. Goose and soda water is my poison of choice.
Great service. Matt and Josh personable and prices decent.
This was about my fifth time there.. Nice little bar, no pool table though.. Friendly bartender the night I stopped by, and a good crowd.. Bar and especially bathroom, was super clean, which is always nice.. Not a huge parking lot, so it gets full sometimes.. I've had to park on the street before..
